In August 2000 the exhibition “Bringing The Kirkcudbright Artists Home” took place in Kirkcudbright. It was widely hailed as an outstanding success, and sparked renewed interest in Galloway painters. The time seems right to highlight the work of individual artists whose paintings were shown in that exhibition, among which was a much admired painting by Dumfries artist, Mrs. Chris J Fergusson.
It is now some 15 years since the last important review of Christian Jane Fergusson’s work which took place at the Robert Burns Centre, Dumfries, and at Broughton House, Kirkcudbright in the summer of 1986. The publication of this booklet to accompany a new retrospective exhibition at the Harbour Cottage Gallery, Kirkcudbright in June 2001 and in her home town, Dumfries in May/June 2002, has been made possible through generous support from Dumfries and Galloway Council to whom I would like to extend heartfelt thanks.
